Integrated Photonics Layout Engineer
For a meticulous designer who excels in perfecting layouts of integrated photonic circuits.
What you will do
As an Integrated Photonics Layout Engineer, you will be part of our interdisciplinary Photonics team in imec Eindhoven. In this position, you will have a key and visible role in the team. Your main tasks will be:
- Photonic Circuit Layout: Create and optimize layouts for photonic integrated circuits using tools and software (e.g., IPKISS, GDS factory, Cadence, KLayout, Synopsys, Nazca, ...).
- PDK Development and Maintenance: Develop, maintain, and update the Process Design Kit (PDK) to support current and future generations of photonic integrated circuits. Ensure the PDK aligns with foundry requirements and incorporates new design rules, components, and best practices.
- Design Rule Checking (DRC): Ensure compliance with foundry design rules and guidelines to guarantee manufacturability and functionality.
- Collaboration with Design Team: Work closely with photonic design engineers, process engineers, and system architects to translate schematics and design requirements into precise and efficient layouts. When needed, actively participate in the design phase, utilizing software tools such as Lumerical packages and COMSOL Multiphysics to contribute to the overall development process.
- Mask Design and Tape-out Preparation: Generate layouts and prepare final designs for tape-out, ensuring adherence to timeline and quality standards.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed design documentation, version control, and process workflows for reproducibility and traceability.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve layout-related issues, including optical, electrical, and thermal constraints.
