Research & development - Leuven | Just now

In the team for Alternative Computing Systems we focus on non-conventional computing technologies for next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. Our mission is to investigate radically different models of computation (unary, stochastic, neuromorphic, quantum, ..) and associated algorithms as novel approaches to building AI systems. If our goal resonates with your ambitions and expertise, the conversation starts here. Join our dynamic team at the forefront of AI innovation, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of scalable, low-latency and energy-efficient intelligent systems.

Research engineer for future AI systems

What you will do

  • Investigate alternative computing models that can be used for building trainable and self-learning systems, and follow-up state-of-the-art evolutions in the field.
  • Design, implement and evaluate new algorithms for a variety of AI workloads and optimized for specific hardware (HW) platforms. While your work is mostly situated at the software and algorithmic level, you will work in close collaboration with HW teams, e.g., for investigating execution details of algorithms, for understanding specific characteristics of the HW, …
  • Engage in cutting-edge research in the field of future AI functions and produce high impact publications.
  • Contribute to the definition of the research roadmap, and writing of new research projects.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. • Strong background and knowledge of machine learning (ML), deep learning, and AI.
  • Experience in developing and implementing ML/AI algorithms and applications.
  • Have a good understanding of key specifications and trade-offs of embedded systems (e.g., parameters, performance and cost).
  • Proficiency in Python and C/C++, with experience with ML libraries (E.g. PyTorch …).
  • You are a team player with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including HW development, and other AI-teams.
  • You are a responsible, communicative and flexible person.
  • Your English is fluent, both speaking and writing.

Team

You will join the Alternative Computing Systems team, which is part of the larger AI Compute department in the AI & Algorithms expertise centre. The team and department are multidisciplinary and highly international, composed of talent with skills in AI algorithms, sensor fusion techniques, and general application development. The AI & Algorithms centre consists of around 150 people, operating from the imec offices in Ghent, Antwerp and Leuven. Its main emphasis is on software/hardware co-design and your work will be part of an ongoing effort for disruptive innovation through creative collaboration between the hardware and software departments at imec.
