Engineering - Leuven | About a week ago

At the AISensing team we focus on AI-powered sensing technology, spanning large-scale AI models, simulations of next-generation sensors, and energy-efficient sensory systems. One of our missions is to deliver cutting-edge solutions for more robust sensor-driven applications compatible with energy-efficient HW. If our goal resonates with your ambitions and expertise, the conversation starts here. Join our dynamic team at the forefront of AI innovation, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy-efficient AI algorithms for sensor-driven applications, in automotive and intelligent underwater perception domains.

Senior AI Research Engineer in Efficient Multi-modal Sensor Systems

What you will do

  • Study research papers in a highly interdisciplinary field at the intersection between AI algorithms for multi-modal sensor fusion, next generation sensing technologies (e.g., event cameras) and energy-efficient HW architectures (neuromorphic HW and AI accelerators).
  • Design, implement and evaluate energy-efficient, AI/neuromorphic workloads for multi-modal sensor processing, with a focus on applications for the automotive and underwater intelligent sensing domain.
  • While your work is mostly situated at the software and algorithmic level, you will work in close collaboration with HW teams, e.g., for the deployment of workloads on real-time platforms for specific use-case scenarios.
  • Contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of emergent sensing technology and energy-efficient AI/neuromorphic models and to the definition of research publications.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical engineering or related field.
  • Strong background in ML, DL and AI.
  • Experience in developing and implementing AI and neuromorphic/event-based algorithms and perception pipelines.
  • Experience with event cameras and/or neuromorphic/edge-computing applications.
  • Have a good understanding of key specifications and trade-offs of embedded systems (e.g., parameters, performance and cost).
  • Proficiency in Python, with experience in ML libraries such as PyTorch.
  • You are a team player with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including HW development, sensor development, and other AI-teams.
  • You are a responsible, communicative and flexible person.
  • Your English is fluent, both speaking and writing.

Team

You will work with teams from various parts of imec, working in a highly applied way towards contributions related to imec’s incubating AI and automotive program. You will also contribute to the definition of the research roadmap, new research projects, writing high quality research publications, and get to work in a growing but ambitious team.

You will join the AISensing team, which is part of the larger AI team of the AI&Algorithms department. The team and department are multidisciplinary and highly international, composed of talent with skills in AI algorithms, sensor fusion techniques, MLOps pipelines and general application development. The AI&Algorithms department consists of around 150 people, operating from the imec offices in Ghent, Antwerp and Leuven. Its main emphasis is on software/hardware co-design and your work will be part of an ongoing effort for disruptive innovation through creative collaboration between the hardware and software departments at imec.
