Autonomous Edge Chiplet Forum

Autonomous systems are becoming part of our everyday lives, from software-defined vehicles and robots to industrial automation and even aerospace applications.

As these systems take on increasingly complex tasks, so do the demands on the underlying compute hardware. It needs to process more data, make faster decisions, and operate reliably in challenging environments.

Meeting those demands with traditional monolithic system-on-chip (SoC) designs is becoming increasingly difficult.

As a result, the industry is turning to chiplet architectures.

Standardization: the key to an open chiplet ecosystem

Chiplet architectures can break through the barriers that monolithic chips run into. Their modular approach allows for higher performance, faster development cycles, greater design flexibility, and improved technology reuse.

They also enable the industry to diversify its digital offering – by mixing and matching chiplets from niche semiconductor players – and bring innovations to market faster.

But the success of chiplet-based systems requires more than technology alone.

To unlock the full potential of chiplets, the industry needs open interfaces, interoperable building blocks, shared validation approaches, and common development frameworks. Achieving this requires collaboration across the entire value chain.

Building the autonomous edge chiplet ecosystem

To address these challenges, imec launched the Autonomous Edge Chiplet Program (AECP).

Building on the foundations laid by the Automotive Chiplet Program, AECP brings together partners from automotive, robotics, aerospace, security, high-performance edge computing, and the broader semiconductor ecosystem.

Together, they work on the technologies, methodologies, and ecosystem foundations needed to enable next-generation autonomous edge platforms.

Participants include OEMs, Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers, semiconductor companies, foundries, OSATs, IP and software providers, EDA vendors, system integrators, research organizations, and universities.

The Autonomous Edge Chiplet Forum:  the meeting place for the autonomous edge chiplet ecosystem

The Autonomous Edge Chiplet Forum (AECF) complements the AECP program by physically bringing the ecosystem together on a regular basis.

Organized twice a year, the forum provides an opportunity to exchange insights, discuss emerging challenges, identify gaps in current standards, and align on the next steps needed to accelerate chiplet adoption.
