What we do

We create and co create new ventures and strategically invest in existing ventures through non cash contributions, including access to imec’s technology, IP, infrastructure, expertise, manufacturing services, and ecosystem.

By doing so, we shorten development timelines, enable access to specialized infrastructure, and reduce the complexity of scaling from lab to fab.

For ventures that benefit from equity financing, we work in close collaboration with imec.xpand, enabling founders, where and when appropriate, to complement strategic and capital support.

Launch your venture

Imec partners with founders, scientists, and entrepreneurs to turn deep tech semiconductor-driven innovation into real world impact. We support venture creation with hands on guidance, access to world class technology, and the expertise needed to build resilient, scalable companies.

We provide incubation services, including:

• venture shaping and strategic positioning
• team build-up and leadership support
• hands-on technical guidance
• access to imec’s technology, manufacturing services, infrastructure, and expertise

Create

Your venture originates inside imec.

We work with imec researchers and scientists to create spin offs based on breakthrough imec technology, supporting the journey from research to company formation.

Co-create

Your venture originates outside imec.

We co-create new ventures with external founders by combining their breakthrough idea, market insight and entrepreneurial drive with imec’s technology, infrastructure, and expertise.

Your journey from innovator/founder to industry disruptor:

1. Submit your idea – contact us to join a cohort.
2. Enrich your pitch (3 months) – discuss with potential customers and investors.
3. Step into a funded timebox (6-9 months) – shape your technical and commercial strategies, build your team, and secure crucial investor relationships.
4. Launch & scale – continue your journey and scale your venture.

We also welcome seasoned entrepreneurs looking to solve a clear market need and seeking the right deep-tech foundation for their next venture.

Become a portfolio company

We partner with high-potential semiconductor deep-tech ventures to create global impact.

Through strategic, non cash contributions, we invest imec’s technology, IP, infrastructure, expertise, and ecosystem in existing ventures. This approach helps founders extend runway, navigate lab to fab complexity, and scale breakthrough solutions without excessive capital burn.

Where equity financing is complementary, ventures may also attract direct capital investment from imec.xpand, an independent venture capital fund with preferential access to imec’s ecosystem.

This pathway typically works best for ventures with:

• An established team in place
• A validated prototype
• Clear deep-tech potential with defensible IP
• Solutions addressing real-world challenges
• Combination of scientific insight and business acumen
• Seed to Series A stage (exceptions apply)
