Neural telemetry breakthrough: new chip delivers ten-fold compression while preserving signal integrity

Neuromorphic compression technology lays the foundation for scalable brain-computer interfaces (BCIs)

Summary

(Intracortical) brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) hold enormous promise for transforming the treatment of neurological disorders and deepening our understanding of the brain.

Imec has developed a neuromorphic compressive telemetry (NCT) chip that reduces neural data volumes by more than 10x while preserving signal fidelity.

This breakthrough paves the way for 10,000-channel BCIs capable of recording neural activity at unprecedented scale.
