R&D Engineer Heterogeneous Lithium Niobate on Silicon Photonics

What you will do

We are seeking a highly motivated Heterogeneous Lithium Niobate on Silicon Photonics R&D engineer to join the Silicon Photonics team at imec. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing processes to integrate lithium niobate onto silicon photonic wafers. You will work in a cutting-edge research environment, collaborating closely with scientists, engineers, and industry partners to push the boundaries of integrated photonics.
Your main responsibilities include:
  • Develop and optimize wafer-scale integration processes for lithium niobate on silicon photonics platforms.
  • Work with various deposition, bonding, and etching techniques to achieve high-quality lithium niobate layers.
  • Characterize material and device performance using advanced metrology and analytical techniques.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, device designers, and integration teams to ensure seamless integration of lithium niobate.
  • Address process-related challenges and propose innovative solutions to enhance the performance and manufacturability of lithium niobate-on-silicon based photonic devices.
  • Maintain documentation of process developments, experimental results, and integration guidelines.

Who you are

  • PhD or Master's degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with lithium niobate and silicon photonics technology is a strong plus.
  • Experience in cleanroom processing and semiconductor fabrication is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative research environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
